A MAC Aircrew Christmas

written by Wally Wallace circa 1968

T'was the night before Christmas, and all through the sky,
Not a creature was stirring, except MAC FAST-FLY.

The crew, they were thinking of being at home,
But they were used to it, for the world they did roam.

The pilot and co-pilot the radios did listen,
The instruments they scanned to make sure nothing was
missin'.

The nav at his computer all updated and ready,
Was thinking of his wife getting the turkey ready.

The engineer at his panel, a huge maze of lights,
Watching for a low oil or wing overheat light.

The loadmaster just sitting in the rear,
Was thinking of dinner and a nice cold beer.

The passengers were snug in their makeshift beds,
Dreaming of the jobs they had lying ahead.

The cargo secured, its use a great plan
To help make the world a peaceful, free land.

When off to the left, a red blinking light,
We thought it was another aircrew in sight.

We looked out the windows to scan the sky,
And look at the aircraft that was passing us by.

But what to our wondering eyes should appear,
But Rudolph, a sleigh, and eight other reindeer!

The pilot of the sleigh, alert and so quick,
We knew in a moment it had to be Saint Nick.

The radio crackled and a voice we did here
With a message that made our eyes tear;

"You're doing a fine job for the people over here,
and maybe we can all be home for Christmas next year".
